Make the first call more useful

When something suddenly hurts or breaks, it can be difficult to know what information matters. A clear description helps the dental team assess urgency and guide the next step. Severe or rapidly changing symptoms should never wait on an online form.

GREENWICH POINT DENTAL

Sort medical emergencies from dental urgency

Trouble breathing or swallowing, rapidly spreading swelling, uncontrolled bleeding, or major facial trauma needs emergency medical help. Call 911 when appropriate. Urgent dental assessment is needed for severe tooth pain, a knocked-out permanent tooth, or new swelling even without those warning signs. If the office cannot be reached, seek an appropriate urgent dental service rather than waiting while symptoms worsen.

Have the essential details ready

Describe the exact location, when the problem began, whether an injury occurred, and what has changed. Mention fever, swelling, bleeding, and whether you can open your mouth, eat, and drink. Keep a current medication and allergy list available. If a crown or fragment came out, save it and explain what happened; do not attempt repair with household glue or sharp tools.

Ask what to do until you are seen

The team can give advice based on your symptoms and health history, including whether you need a different setting for care. Confirm where you should go and which changes mean you should seek emergency help sooner. If a permanent adult tooth is knocked out, keep it moist and seek immediate dental attention. Never reinsert a baby tooth. Do not put aspirin against a painful tooth or gum.

GOOD QUESTIONS

A little more clarity.

Should I submit an appointment request for urgent swelling?

Call for prompt triage instead. An online request may not be reviewed immediately. Breathing or swallowing difficulty, spreading swelling, or other emergency warning signs requires emergency medical care rather than waiting for a callback.
