Thoughtful dental care

A considered plan for a missing tooth.

Replacing a tooth is about more than filling a space. It means planning a comfortable bite, a natural-looking restoration and a way to care for it over time. Dental implants may provide that foundation when your health and the condition of your mouth support treatment.

Let’s talk about your care

What an implant replaces

A dental implant is a small support placed in the jaw to take the role of a missing tooth root. A connector and restoration complete the visible tooth. Depending on the situation, implants can support a single crown, a bridge or a denture.

Dr. Chase Whitlow has completed advanced implant training through the AAID program at Rutgers. Your assessment determines the appropriate treatment plan and whether specialist coordination or referral would be helpful.

Planning comes before placement

We consider the health of nearby teeth and gums, available bone, your bite and the space for the final restoration. Imaging may be needed to understand the anatomy. Tell us about medicines, smoking, diabetes and any previous problems with healing.

Some people need gum treatment, an extraction or bone-related care before an implant can be considered. Immediate placement at an extraction visit is a possibility in selected circumstances, not an expectation for every case. Ask what you would use for appearance and chewing during healing.

A sequence built around healing

The implant must heal in its supporting tissues before it can carry the intended load. The time and number of appointments vary with the site, procedures and restoration. The plan should explain placement, reassessment and the final tooth, along with any temporary stage.

Implants require maintenance as well as surgery. Cleaning around the restoration, avoiding harmful chewing habits and attending review visits help protect the investment. Report bleeding gums, movement, discomfort or a change in your bite. We will discuss alternatives and an individual estimate before you choose a direction.

YOUR QUESTIONS

A little more clarity.

Can I get an implant if a tooth has been missing for years?

Possibly. Bone and tissue changes after tooth loss may affect the plan, so an examination and appropriate imaging are needed. The length of time alone does not answer the question.

Is the crown placed on the same day?

Sometimes a temporary restoration is possible, but immediate loading is not suitable for everyone. Your dentist will explain the safest sequence for your particular site.

What other options should I compare?

A tooth-supported bridge or removable denture may be appropriate. The comparison includes surgery, neighboring teeth, hygiene, timing and cost, as well as appearance.
