A preventive tool for teeth at every age

Fluoride helps strengthen enamel and supports repair of early mineral loss. It is used in toothpaste, some water supplies, and selected professional or prescribed products. The useful question is which sources and products fit your age and cavity risk.

GREENWICH POINT DENTAL

Start with your everyday protection

Brushing with fluoride toothpaste is a central part of preventing decay. It works alongside cleaning between teeth and limiting frequent sugar exposure; it does not make those habits unnecessary. At your visit, bring the name or a photograph of the toothpaste you use. If taste, texture, or sensitivity makes brushing difficult, ask for an alternative that still meets your preventive needs.

Ask when additional fluoride is useful

People with recurrent decay, dry mouth, or exposed roots may benefit from extra preventive measures. Your dentist can assess whether an office application or a prescribed home product is appropriate. More products do not automatically create a better plan. Clarify the purpose of each one, how it should be used, and whether it replaces or supplements another product in your routine.

Keep children's use supervised

Young children need age-appropriate toothpaste amounts and adult help to avoid swallowing it. Discuss the child's water source and any supplements with a dental or medical clinician before adding products. Store dental products safely out of reach. If you have questions about fluoride exposure, bring the actual product labels and water information so the discussion is specific rather than based on a general assumption.

GOOD QUESTIONS

A little more clarity.

Can fluoride repair a hole in a tooth?

Fluoride can help arrest or reverse early mineral loss before a cavity forms. It does not rebuild a missing piece of tooth. An examination determines whether prevention, monitoring, or a restoration is needed.
