Consider the whole replacement plan

A dental implant is a surgically placed support for a replacement tooth or teeth. The visible crown, bridge, or denture is another part of the restoration. A good consultation explains both the surgical foundation and the finished teeth you will use.

GREENWICH POINT DENTAL

Establish whether the site is suitable

Assessment considers bone, gums, the surrounding teeth, the bite, and your medical history. Tobacco use and some health conditions can affect healing. Tell the clinician about all medicines and previous dental procedures. Ask whether additional treatment is needed first and whether another replacement option may be simpler or more appropriate. Age alone does not answer the suitability question.

Understand the stages before starting

Implant care may involve extraction, healing, site preparation, implant placement, and the final restoration, but not every person needs the same sequence. Ask what you will use during any healing period and which parts of treatment involve another clinician. Timing depends on the site and response to treatment. Avoid judging options only by promises about speed or a single quoted component price.

Include maintenance and future repairs

Implants need cleaning and professional review of the surrounding tissues and restoration. Ask to see how you will reach the relevant spaces and whether the design fits your ability to maintain it. Discuss possible complications, repair needs, and what is included in follow-up. The aim is a workable long-term plan, not a promise that a replacement tooth will never require attention or further treatment.

GOOD QUESTIONS

A little more clarity.

Does having an implant mean I cannot get gum problems there?

No. The tissues around an implant can become inflamed or diseased. Daily cleaning, review visits, and early attention to bleeding, swelling, or looseness remain important parts of implant care.
