Choose a replacement around the way you live

A missing tooth may change how you chew, speak, or feel about your smile. The best starting point is a conversation about what bothers you, followed by an examination of the space, the remaining teeth, and the tissues that would support a replacement.

GREENWICH POINT DENTAL

Look at the whole space

A gap is more than its visible width. The dentist considers your bite, neighboring teeth, gum health, and available bone. Teeth can shift and bone may change after tooth loss, although the implications differ between people. Explain when and why the tooth was lost and whether you already use a replacement. That history helps make the discussion more specific than a simple list of products.

Compare everyday tradeoffs

Replacement approaches include implants, bridges, and removable dentures. Ask how each suitable option stays in place, what it requires of nearby teeth, and how you would clean it. Consider appointments, surgery where applicable, ongoing maintenance, and the possibility of future repairs. An implant may be an appropriate choice for some patients, but suitability depends on examination and planning, sometimes with specialist input.

Plan the sequence

Addressing active disease may be necessary before replacing the tooth. Ask whether you need a temporary solution, how your comfort and appearance will be managed during treatment, and what changes would alter the plan. Request a written explanation of recommended stages and associated costs before making a decision. You can also ask what monitoring would involve if you choose to delay or decline a replacement.

GOOD QUESTIONS

A little more clarity.

Must every missing tooth be replaced the same way?

No. The location of the space, condition of the remaining teeth, bite, health, and your preferences all matter. Different spaces in the same mouth may call for different approaches.
