Thoughtful dental care

Care for the foundation of your teeth.

Bleeding gums deserve attention even when they do not hurt. Gum disease can affect the tissues and bone supporting teeth, often before discomfort appears. A periodontal assessment helps us distinguish inflammation from more advanced disease and choose care that fits the findings.

Let’s talk about your care

Personal care.
A Greenwich tradition.

GREENWICH POINT DENTAL

Measure what is happening below the surface

We examine the gums, measure the spaces around teeth and assess bleeding, recession and tooth stability. Images may help evaluate supporting bone. Together, these findings show more than gum color alone; healthy gum pigmentation varies naturally.

Tell us about smoking, diabetes, medications and changes you have noticed when brushing. Persistent bad breath, tenderness or a change in how teeth fit together can also be relevant. No single symptom can confirm the stage of disease.

Why a deep cleaning is different

Scaling and root planing treats deposits and bacterial buildup on root surfaces below the gumline. It is recommended when ordinary preventive cleaning would not adequately address the periodontal condition. Local anesthesia may be used, and treatment may be divided across appointments.

Additional treatment depends on your response and the depth or complexity of affected areas. Selected situations may call for medication or referral to a periodontist. These are individual decisions, not automatic additions to every deep cleaning.

The follow-up is part of treatment

After initial care, reassessment checks whether tissues are responding and whether pockets remain a concern. Gums may feel tender and teeth may be temporarily sensitive. Follow the personalized cleaning instructions rather than avoiding the area altogether.

Long-term periodontal maintenance differs from simply returning to an unchanged routine. The schedule reflects your disease history, risk and home care. We can help you find practical ways to clean difficult spaces and discuss support for tobacco cessation or medical coordination when relevant. Treatment and daily care work together; neither replaces the other.

GOOD QUESTIONS

A little more clarity.

Can gum disease be reversed?

Gingivitis can often resolve with effective care. Periodontitis involves damage to tooth-supporting tissues and needs ongoing management; lost support does not simply return after a cleaning.

Why do I need treatment if my gums do not hurt?

Periodontal disease may progress with little pain. Measurements, bleeding and bone findings can reveal a problem before you feel it.

Will deep cleaning be all I need?

That depends on the findings and your healing response. Reassessment may support maintenance alone or identify areas that need additional treatment or specialist care.
