The amount of gum coverage, lip support and space for cleaning can differ substantially. Your smile, speech and comfort depend on the full design, not only on whether the teeth stay in place.
Begin with an individual assessment
We consider the health of remaining teeth, available bone, gum tissues, jaw relationships and your medical history. If teeth are still present, the decision to remove them deserves its own careful discussion. An implant proposal should not skip the question of whether teeth can reasonably be retained.
Some patients need preparatory treatment or referral. The number of implants and whether a temporary restoration can be used during healing are case-specific. Ask how you will eat and manage appearance between stages and what changes to your existing denture may be necessary.
Plan for practical upkeep
Attachments on a removable design may wear and need maintenance. Fixed designs require cleaning beneath the teeth and around supports. Both need regular professional assessment, and both can develop problems with the surrounding tissues.
Bring your priorities to a consultation: fewer movements during meals, easier cleaning, a change in appearance or a more comfortable fit.
