Ease into eating and speaking
Begin with manageable bites of softer food and chew slowly. Practice speaking aloud if certain sounds feel different. Do not force yourself through a painful pressure spot or assume severe discomfort is necessary for the denture to settle.
Contact us about rubbing, persistent sores or a loose fit. Do not file the denture, bend clasps or use a home repair kit; small changes can alter support and damage the appliance.
Clean the appliance and your mouth
Remove and clean a removable denture as instructed, using a soft brush and an appropriate nonabrasive cleanser. Clean remaining teeth and gently clean the gums and tongue. Work over a towel or water-filled basin to reduce damage if you drop it.
Follow the material-specific instructions for overnight removal and storage. Avoid hot water, which can distort the appliance. An immediate denture placed after extractions may have different initial wearing instructions, so confirm before removing it.
Keep the adjustment appointment
A denture does not eliminate the need for examinations of your mouth. Tissue changes, wear and remaining teeth need monitoring. Bring the appliance to follow-up visits and describe exactly where discomfort occurs. Adhesive should not become a substitute for checking a poor fit.

Should I wear it overnight?

What if a clasp breaks?
Stop using the appliance if it is sharp, unstable or at risk of being swallowed, and call for advice. Keep all pieces and do not attempt to glue it together.
